shard 8 "too complicated over there"
Shard: 8, "Too complicated over there"
Type: Neutral Trivial
What it means:
S1 Ep. 2
This one is best explained by watching the clip. Trust me, you want to watch it for full "Riley why". You don't need sound and it's only about a minute, so, yeah. It's the first 1:39 of this video!
Transcript (what little there is):
It's a new morning at John Quincy Adams and Riley is busy texting a boy named "Lucas" and is really happy about this. Maya is with her when she starts and i in full-on judging and you need help mode.
Maya: Talk to him.
Riley (slightly panicked but shifting it to positivity): Why? We have a great text relationship.
Maya: You wanna know what's a better text relationship?
Riley: What?
Maya: Talk to him.
She makes a slightly scared face and goes back to texting Lucas. Who is, incidentally, ten feet away. Lucas texts her back, she texts him, and then she shows the text to Maya. It's literally: Riley: Where u goin? Lucas: History. I sit next to you. Riley: So do I!!! :)
Maya: He's right over there.
Riley: Noooo. Too complicated over there. Lot's can go wrong over there. The only thing that can go wrong over here is going over there.
Maya's still in full on "nope" mode and points to Lucas so Riley finally concedes in going over there and passes over her books. She then decides to be very... Riley Who knows. But she approaches from behind like the shark from jaws with a creepy grin. And then proceeds mouthing words at Lucas--- Which is actually a serious infliction. She definitely has a crush on him and she definitely can't speak to him one-on-one and seems to lose the ability to talk. DESPITE THIS. She just keeps mouthing at him before staring pathetically at Maya.
Once more, Maya motions to talk to him. Riley mouths "okay," tries to say hello once more... And then resolves to take smell Lucas not once... but twice (she looks proud about this, too). And then looks back at Maya who at this point is judging her so HARD and motions for her to come back. Riley is so proud and happy for herself-- and possibly relieved-- when she races back.
Riley: How'd I do?
Maya: You smelled him.
Riley: Yep.
Maya: You smelled him is what you do.
Riley: I walk through life the way that I walk through life.
Maya keeps judging her.
Maya: Are we going to talk about this.
Riley walks past her into the classroom pulling out her cellphone. She texts the word "Nope" to Maya and the memory ends.
